Abstract: | Tinnitus is a sensation of sound perceived by the individual in the absence of external sound stimuli. Objective: evaluate the prevalence of changes in the metabolism of carbohydrates in tinnitus patients treated at a referral center for ENT and cervicofacial surgery in the city of Manaus. This is an observational, cross-sectional and prospective study of application and analysis of data from forms of patients with tinnitus. We evaluated 21 patients with tinnitus and 52.4% female. The patients had between 31 (minimum age) and 86 years (maximum age), with a mean of 53. The most frequent buzzing sound descriptions were wheezing (33.3%), zum (14.3%) and whistle ( 14.3%). Of assessed, 28.6% reported bilateral tinnitus with greater intensity on the left, 28.6% were suggestive of blood glucose diabetes mellitus and 9.5% had impaired glucose tolerance. It was found that 38.1% of patients showed blood glucose above the normal value, and in 28.6% values were suggestive of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Description: | O zumbido é uma sensação de som percebido pelo indivíduo na ausência de estímulos sonoros externos. Objetivo foi valiar a prevalência de alterações no metabolismo dos glicídios em pacientes com zumbido atendidos em um serviço de referência de otorrinolaringologia e cirurgia cérvico-facial da cidade de Manaus. Tratase de estudo observacional, transversal e prospectivo com aplicação e análise de dados a partir de formulários de pacientes portadores de zumbido. Foram avaliados 21 pacientes portadores de zumbido, sendo 52,4% do gênero feminino. Os pacientes apresentaram idade entre 31 (idade mínima) e 86 anos (idade máxima), com média de 53. As descrições de som de zumbido mais frequentes foram chiado (33,3%), zum (14,3%) e apito (14,3%). Dos avaliados, 28,6% relataram zumbido bilateral com maior intensidade à esquerda, 28,6% estavam com glicemia sugestiva de Diabetes Mellitus e 9,5% estavam com tolerância à glicose diminuída. Constatou-se que 38,1% dos pacientes demonstraram glicemia acima do valor da normalidade, sendo que em 28,6% os valores eram sugestivos de diabetes mellitus tipo 2. |
